Java Developer – Newcastle upon Tyne (Hybrid) Location: Newcastle, Cobalt Business ParkWorking Pattern: Hybrid – 3 days per week onsiteClearance: SC ClearanceAbout the RoleWe are looking for a talented Java Developer to join our growing engineering team in Newcastle. You’ll work on meaningful, high‑impact projects across a variety of industries, helping organisations solve real‑world problems through innovative technology.In this role, you will collaborate closely with technical leads, testers, and cloud engineers to design, develop, and deliver secure, scalable, cloud‑ready Java services. You will also gain exposure to enterprise‑level solutions, modern engineering practices, and large‑scale digital transformation initiatives.What You’ll Be DoingDesigning and building modular, maintainable Java (JDK 11+) and Spring Boot microservices.Working with enterprise middleware technologies such as WebLogic Server (Enterprise Edition) and CAS SDK for secure, high‑performance integrations.Collaborating with cloud and infrastructure teams to deploy solutions into secure public cloud environments (e.g., AWS) using containerisation.Applying high‑quality engineering practices including TDD, CI, Continuous Testing, and consistent branching strategies.Supporting technical leads in defining microservice boundaries and end‑to‑end integration flows.Working closely with test automation engineers to ensure robust functional and non‑functional testing.Participating fully in Scrum ceremonies including backlog refinement, sprint planning, daily stand‑ups, reviews, and retrospectives.Essential Skills & ExperienceStrong commercial Java development background using Core Java and Spring Boot.Experience with enterprise middleware platforms (WebLogic, CAS SDK).Hands‑on experience deploying solutions to cloud environments (AWS preferred).Strong understanding of microservices architecture and secure service development.Familiarity with agile Scrum methodologies.Strong collaboration, communication, and problem‑solving skills.Desirable Skills (Set Yourself Apart)Experience with CI/CD tools including GitLab, Jenkins, SonarQube.Working knowledge of TDD/BDD practices.Experience building secure, scalable services in public cloud environments.Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced agile environment.What’s in It for YouCompetitive salary package25 days annual leavePrivate medical insuranceAdditional 3 days paid leave for charitable workOpportunities to grow your career through exposure to innovative technologies and large‑scale programmesFlexibility and mobility to work with clients and partners as needed
