Founding Backend / Platform Engineer (Python)
A fast-growing AI-driven product startup in the sports & computer vision space is looking for a founding-level backend engineer to join the core team and help shape the platform from an early stage.
This is not a “just another senior backend role.” The company is looking for someone who can take ownership of the backend and platform direction end-to-end, from architecture and infrastructure decisions to scaling systems and helping build the engineering function over time.
The product is already live, the team is moving fast, and engineering is considered a core strategic function of the business.
What You’ll Do:
- Own and evolve the backend architecture
- Build scalable platform infrastructure for a growing AI-powered product
- Work closely with founders and the CTO on technical and product decisions
- Design systems with a strong focus on reliability, scalability, and speed of execution
- Contribute across backend, infrastructure, and platform engineering areas
- Support DevOps and deployment workflows in early stages
- Optionally contribute to ML infrastructure / ML engineering workflows
What We’re Looking For:
- Strong backend engineering background with Python
- Experience designing and scaling production systems
- Ability to operate autonomously and make pragmatic technical decisions
- Strong prioritisation skills in fast-moving startup environments
- Product mindset and ownership mentality
- Comfortable working under ambiguity and building from 0→1
- Startup or founding-team experience is a strong plus
Nice to Have:
- DevOps / infrastructure experience
- Experience with ML infrastructure or ML engineering
- Exposure to computer vision, analytics, or high-load systems
Why This Role:
- Founding-level ownership and influence
- Direct impact on product and technical direction
- High-autonomy environment with fast decision-making
- Strong compensation package
- Equity participation
This role is ideal for someone who wants to build, own, and scale, not just execute tickets.
