About the Role

Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is currently looking for a Thermal Sub-Systems Engineer at our Superior Township, MI facility.   The Core Model Development Team is a part of the Vehicle Architecture and Powertrain Matching (VA&M) Department which focuses on the definition of critical powertrain requirements along with advanced concept development for Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis products. WHAT YOU WILL DO Develop high-fidelity 1D thermal sub-system level models to support fuel economy and vehicle performance assessments. Lead model correlation and validation against physical test data to ensure simulation accuracy and predictive capability. Assess model robustness over a wide range of duty cycles. Establish and maintain robust version control and documentation standards for tool development, including model development, assumptions, and validation procedures. Explore and apply AI/ML techniques to optimize component selection/development, accelerate simulation times and for pre/post processing. Understand and follow the department’s business model, strategic direction, purpose, and mission. Work with the Manager and Senior Manager to participate in the department’s resource planning, goal setting, and technology roadmap creation. Foster inner-team collaboration and knowledge sharing through transparent communication. Prepare and present technical reports on key project milestones/achievements and provide actionable insights and recommendations for product improvements. Up to 15% travel (domestic and international) WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, or a related field 3+ years of automotive engineering experience focused on powertrain development Extensive experience using 1D thermal simulation software, preferably GT-Suite, to support vehicle and powertrain development Demonstrated foundational knowledge of electrified powertrain components, including electric motors, power conversion systems, high voltage batteries, engines, transmissions, charging electronics, and control systems  Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to clearly explain technical topics to both technical and non-technical collaborators Valid Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record
