Our client is building an AI-powered job platform and is looking for a QA Engineer to own quality for the Deep Matching (Recommendation System) team.
This team is responsible for the system that takes a candidate profile and a large pool of jobs and returns a ranked, relevance-scored feed. Your core responsibility will be to ensure the matching logic produces sensible, high-quality results across every type of candidate and input condition, tested through both the UI and the API.
What You'll Do:
- Test the matching logic end-to-end, through both the UI and the API - verify the ranked feed is relevant and actually makes sense for the candidate.
- Test a wide range of candidate-input scenarios: with CV / without CV, overseniority, missing title, missing work history, sparse profiles, unusual combinations - and check how matching behaves in each.
- Hunt for bad matches and edge cases: irrelevant jobs ranked high, empty or broken feeds, mismatches between Match Score and real relevance.
- Test fallback behaviour - what the user sees when the feed is thin or empty.
- Validate API contracts and analytics events: correct response shape and scores, correct tracking (our metrics depend on it).
- Build up regression checks and golden sets so changes to the model don't silently break the feed.
- Reproduce bugs, write clear bug reports, maintain test cases; work closely with backend, Data Science, and data engineering.
- Exceptional Common Sense.
- 3-5 years of QA experience on web / backend / data-heavy products.
- Strong ability to test messy, real-world scenarios - not only happy paths. Sharp attention to detail and product thinking.
- API testing (Postman/requests or similar) and comfort reading and reasoning about JSON responses.
- SQL - able to query and validate data yourself.
- Python for test scripting/automation.
- Understanding of matching, search, or recommendation systems.
- Basic grasp of ML / relevance concepts (precision@k, relevance, offline↔online gap).
- CI (GitHub Actions / GitLab CI).
- Experience with logs and observability: Sentry, Grafana, Amplitude.
- Market salary.
- 20 workdays/year paid vacation.
- Full-time remote work with flexible working hours.
- Fast-paced, product-driven environment with real ownership and autonomy.
- Opportunity to shape architecture and tech stack in a VC-backed startup from the early stages.
- Close collaboration with a strong product team (PM, Design, Growth).
- A culture of transparency, minimal bureaucracy, and quick decision-making.
- Smart, ambitious teammates who value impact over process.
