About the Role

As a SHO (Senior House Officer) you will be working closely with other junior doctors and a team of registrar’s doctors and Consultants within your department. You must maintain liaison with colleagues who are on duty immediately before and after you to ensure adequate communication and continuity of patient care.  You will instruct the nursing staff in the care of patients, also the professional technical staffs in the investigations Etc.; that is necessary for patient care and take care that other departments are fully acquainted with all necessary information. The hospital offers an excellent salary with pay enhancements for any overtime, shift and out of hours work that you do- average 39 hours per week plus overtime opportunities as and when required. You will be responsible to the Consultant (s) and Registrar(s) for ensuring that the Department is adequately covered by the juniors in the unavoidable absence from duty of your colleagues or junior colleagues.  The Senior House Officer must be dedicated to developing their career as the Consultants provide an excellent training programme as they are devoted to career progression within their medical staffing team as per your speciality. Tier 2 Certificate of Sponsorship (formerly a Work Permit) Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications, upon appointment the relevant paperwork with be issued to the successful applicant (if required for NON-EU Doctors) General Duties- guideline only The duties will be carried out within the Department and working hours will be negotiated on appointment consistent with the needs of the Dermatology – Medicine Department. • He/she will be expected to work with the multidisciplinary team to assess undifferentiated emergency patients, institute time critical interventions and to arrange admission or discharge with appropriate follow up. He/She will be involved in the full spectrum of Dermatology – Medicine Department patients including the resuscitation & assessment of seriously ill and injured patients, dealing with complex cases, paediatrics and minor injuries. •To actively participate in staff meetings, forums and development programmes in order to support development of service and maintenance of high quality care. •He/she will be expected to work with the multidisciplinary team to assess undifferentiated emergency patients, institute time critical interventions and to arrange admission or discharge with appropriate follow up. •He/she will recognize their own limitations and seek advice from the Consultants and Middle grades in their management of patients. •He/she will take part in an audit project, supervised by a Consultant The duties/rota of the post may change from time to time to suit the Department’s requirements. •Other duties as directed by the Consultant in Charge •The post holder undertakes exceptionally to be available for such irregular commitments outside normally rostered duties as are essential for continuity of patient care. •To provide safe and effective care of patients. •He/she will share the responsibility of ongoing care of patients on the observation ward •He/she will be encouraged to attend teaching sessions •Applying specialist knowledge and skills across a range of impairments, procedures and practices gained through practical experience, underpinned by theoretical knowledge. •Have a continuing responsibility for the care of patients and the functioning of the department. •Providing diagnosis and treatment for all categories of patient in the department. •He/She will be involved in the full spectrum of Department patients including the resuscitation & assessment of seriously ill and injured patients, dealing with complex cases, paediatrics and minor injuries. •The post holder undertakes exceptionally to be available for such irregular commitments outside normally rostered duties as are essential for continuity of patient care. •He/she will recognize their own limitations and seek advice from the Consultants and Middle grades in their management of patients. •He/she will take part in an audit project, supervised by a Consultant •He/she will share the responsibility of ongoing care of patients on the observation ward •He/she will be encouraged to attend teaching sessions •The duties/rota of the post may change from time to time to suit the Department’s requirements. •Other duties as directed by the Consultant in Charge You will have delegated responsibility for all the patients under the care of the Consultant to whose firm you are attached at the time, and for the patients of all the Consultants when undertaking emergency cover or when the other SHOs are off duty.  You will refer to the Consultant(s) when problems arise which are beyond your authority and/or experience, and will oversee and advise the House Officers.
