About the Role

Description

Major Infrastructure Project (Hampshire)

Are you an experienced Assistant Quantity Surveyor looking to make an impact on smarter, greener infrastructure? This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward-thinking contractor delivering complex civil engineering and utilities projects across the UK.

The Assistant QS will play a key commercial role on a large-scale infrastructure programme with an exceptionally varied scope — including groundworks, civils, drainage, pavements, and building construction with elements of structural concrete, steelwork, ductile iron pipework and racking systems.

This is a genuinely engaging project where your input will make a visible difference.

Key Responsibilities

Produce accurate weekly and monthly cost value reconciliations.

Capture and allocate project costs, liabilities, and variations.

Develop and maintain long-term relationships with internal teams and supply chain partners.

Manage opportunities and risks, ensuring deviations from best practice are flagged and addressed.

Support in developing tenders, commercial offers, and contracts.

Identify and escalate inappropriate or non-compliant costs.

Record and track insurance claims and contract data.

Prepare sub-contract awards, manage payments, and ensure robust record-keeping.

Share best practices to support continuous improvement across the business.

About You

You’ll ideally have a degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or Construction Management, along with hands-on experience in subcontractor management. A strong commercial mindset is essential, along with familiarity in NEC3 (Option C) or similar contract frameworks and a sound understanding of construction and contract law.

You should also bring:

Strong technical construction knowledge and advanced Excel skills

Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities

A proactive, collaborative approach with the confidence to challenge and influence

The ability to prioritise workload effectively and take ownership of outcomes

Client-facing experience would be advantageous. Please note, visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
