About the Role

About the role:

We are recruiting a Teacher in the Manchester area that will help plan, prepare and deliver science lessons for GCSE students that are working at a lower academic level. The school supports students with SEMH needs and follows a semi-formal curriculum, with a focus on engaging students within education. This full-time position starting in September with the view of being permanent.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and teach engaging Science lessons (Biology, Chemistry and/or Physics) adapted for SEMH students, often focusing on functional understanding and practical exploration.
  • Scaffold scientific concepts using real‑world examples, visuals, experiments and multi‑sensory learning approaches.
  • Promote safe, positive behaviour with clear expectations, consistency and effective de‑escalation strategies.
  • Work closely with pastoral teams to reinforce behaviour plans, risk assessments and safeguarding procedures.
  • Adapt assessments and track progress in a way that is meaningful and personalised for each student.
  • Encourage students to develop problem‑solving skills, resilience, independence and a positive attitude towards learning.

Pre-requisites:

  • Experience teaching Science at KS3 or KS4, ideally with experience in SEMH, AP or PRU settings.
  • Strong understanding of trauma‑informed practice and how to teach students with behavioural and emotional challenges.
  • Ability to plan creative, practical lessons that support engagement and reduce barriers to learning.
  • QTS/QTLS preferred but not essential for the right candidate with strong SEMH experience
