About the role:
A specialist provision in Gainsborough is seeking a Learning & Behaviour Mentor to support pupils who require additional guidance to access education successfully. The school supports children and young people with a range of needs including Autism, ADHD, SEMH, and learning difficulties, providing a structured and nurturing environment where every learner is encouraged to reach their full potential.
Working closely with teaching and pastoral staff, you will help pupils overcome barriers to learning, develop positive relationships, and build the confidence needed to succeed both academically and socially. This role has the protentional to be extended into a permanent role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils experiencing behavioural, emotional, or engagement difficulties.
- Encourage positive attitudes towards learning and support pupils in achieving personal and academic goals.
- Implement behaviour support strategies and intervention programmes to improve engagement and participation.
- Support pupils in developing emotional regulation, resilience, and social skills.
- Build positive, trusting relationships that help pupils feel safe, supported, and motivated.
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and families to promote consistent support.
- Monitor progress and maintain accurate records of interventions and pupil outcomes.
Pre-requisites:
- Experience supporting children or young people within education, youth work, care, mentoring, or similar settings.
- Understanding of behaviour support, emotional wellbeing, and strategies to reduce barriers to learning.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to remain calm, patient, and professional when supporting pupils with additional needs.
- Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
- Relevant qualifications or transferable experience within education, care, or support services.
