🚀 Senior Automation Tools Engineer (Contract)
Inside IR35 - £550-£570 per day
Cambridge Hybrid 2-3 days per week

We’re seeking an experienced Senior Automation Tools Engineer to join a high-impact Automation Tools team on a contract basis. This is an opportunity to play a key role in building and scaling automation frameworks that drive reliability, performance, and efficiency across a complex hybrid infrastructure.
You’ll work closely with Engineering, DevOps, IT, and Operations teams to streamline deployment and configuration processes, enabling robust system management across large-scale environments.

This is an opportunity to play a key role in building and scaling automation frameworks that drive reliability, performance, and efficiency across a complex hybrid infrastructure.

You’ll work closely with Engineering, DevOps, IT, and Operations teams to streamline deployment and configuration processes, enabling robust system management across large-scale environments.

What you’ll be doing:

• Design, build, and maintain automation frameworks across a hybrid estate and compute clusters
• Develop Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using tools like Ansible, Puppet, Terraform, and GitLab
• Integrate automation into CI/CD pipelines to accelerate and improve deployment processes
• Troubleshoot infrastructure challenges and implement automated fixes to enhance stability
• Document systems, processes, and best practices
• Support system availability through participation in an on-call rota
• Continuously evaluate and introduce new tools and technologies

• Strong experience in infrastructure automation and configuration management
• Proven track record managing large-scale Linux environments
• Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
• Scripting expertise (Python, Bash, or similar)
• Experience working across hybrid environments (on-prem + cloud: AWS, Azure, or GCP)
• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience

• Experience with large-scale or multi-cluster environments
• Exposure to AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Codex)
• Relevant certifications
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum
