CONTROLS SYSTEM SME –MISSION-CRITICAL

OVERVIEW
GTN is seeking a Controls System SME to serve as the on-site technical authority within a large-scale High-Performance Compute Center (HPCC) environment.
This role is responsible for the hands-on support, operation, troubleshooting, and optimization of control, automation, and integration systems that enable reliable, efficient, and scalable mission-critical operations. The SME will provide field-level and system-level expertise across Building Management Systems (BMS), SCADA, DCIM, PLCs, and site automation platforms.
The ideal candidate brings deep experience in IT/OT integration, industrial controls, and mission-critical infrastructure, with the ability to operate confidently in live environments where uptime, safety, and procedural discipline are paramount.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
On-Site Controls Authority
•Operate, monitor, and support BMS, SCADA, DCIM, PLC, and site automation systems across the HPCC environment
•Serve as the technical escalation point for control system alarms, abnormal behavior, integration faults, and performance degradation
•Troubleshoot control logic, field devices, communications networks, and IT/OT integrations to restore stable operations
•Validate automated sequences, interlocks, failover logic, signal mapping, and system communications
System Integration & Power Infrastructure
•Support integration between HPCC infrastructure controls and onsite generating station systems, including generator controls, protective relays, and automated load transfer systems
•Ensure synchronized performance between data center controls and power generation environments
•Identify integration risks and escalate concerns appropriately
Commissioning & Change Management
•Participate in commissioning, functional testing, and acceptance activities for new systems and modifications
•Execute standardized test scripts and validate performance outcomes
•Support software, firmware, and configuration updates under formal change management processes
•Verify system stability and performance following updates
Incident Response & Documentation
•Support incident response, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation
•Maintain accurate documentation including control drawings, I/O lists, logic descriptions, network diagrams, and change records
•Ensure alignment with applicable standards and industry best practices (NFPA, ASHRAE, ISA/IEC, cybersecurity frameworks)
•Support OT cybersecurity coordination in partnership with IT and security teams
Cross-Functional Collaboration
•Collaborate with Engineering, Facilities, Operations, Commissioning, and IT/OT teams to maintain reliable and scalable system performance
•Provide technical guidance and knowledge transfer to operators and technical staff
•Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance system resilience and operational efficiency
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
•Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline;or equivalent hands-on experience
•6–9+ years of experience in controls engineering, automation, or OT systems within mission-critical or industrial environments
•Strong hands-on experience with BMS, SCADA, PLC platforms, and IT/OT system integration
•Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as EtherNet/IP, Modbus, and MQTT
•Experience supporting controls systems across construction, commissioning, and live operational environments
•Working knowledge of NFPA 70/70E, ASHRAE, ISA/IEC standards, and OT cybersecurity frameworks
•Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills
•Ability to operate effectively in high-pressure, 24/7 mission-critical environments
