About the role:
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive mainstream primary school in Accrington from September 2026. This is a full-time, temporary position on a long-term supply basis for the full academic year.
The successful candidate will work within the school’s SEN hub, providing tailored support to pupils with a range of additional needs and helping them to access learning in a safe and nurturing environment. The school is recognised for its inclusive ethos, strong pastoral support, and commitment to ensuring every child has the opportunity to succeed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individual and small-group support to pupils within the SEN hub.
- Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and other support staff to implement personalised learning and support plans.
- Support pupils’ academic, social, emotional, and communication development.
- Encourage positive behaviour and help pupils develop independence and confidence.
- Monitor pupil progress and contribute to reviews and discussions regarding support strategies.
Pre-requisites:
- Relevant Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent.
- Proven experience of supporting children with special educational needs in a school setting.
- Strong knowledge of SEN strategies and approaches to support learning and development.
- Two education or school-based references.
- Experience supporting pupils with needs such as ASD, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, SEMH needs, or other additional learning needs.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- An enhanced DBS check on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
