oles & Responsibilities - Homeless Reviews Officer
Conduct statutory reviews of homelessness decisions in accordance with the Housing Act 1996 (as amended) and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
Review decisions made under sections 184, 188, 189B, 193 and related duties, ensuring they are lawful, robust, and based on all relevant evidence.
Request, analyse, and evaluate additional information and representations from applicants, solicitors, and support agencies.
Prepare detailed and legally compliant review decision letters within statutory timescales.
Ensure all review decisions are reasoned, accurate, and defensible in law.
Liaise with applicants, legal representatives, housing officers, and partner agencies throughout the review process.
Identify procedural errors or weaknesses in original decisions and recommend corrective action where required.
Provide advice and guidance to housing officers on homelessness legislation, case law, and best practice.
Attend court or tribunal proceedings where necessary and assist with preparation of legal bundles and statements.
Maintain accurate case records and ensure compliance with data protection and confidentiality requirements.
Monitor and manage a caseload of review requests, prioritising work to meet statutory deadlines.
Contribute to service improvements by identifying trends, learning points, and training needs from review outcomes.
Ensure decisions are compliant with council policies, statutory guidance, and equality duties.
Promote fair, consistent, and customer-focused decision making in homelessness services.
