About the Role

Position: AVP Actuary Location: Boston, MA (Hybrid) Compensation: $140K – $180K Base + Bonus Actuarial Summary: Senior actuarial leader with deep expertise in variable annuity valuation, financial reporting, and reserve analysis. This role oversees valuation activities supporting US GAAP, Statutory, and Tax reporting while providing insight into earnings emergence, reserve movements, and assumption impacts. Responsible for leading a valuation team, supporting audits and regulatory requirements, and partnering with modeling, data, and technology teams to enhance valuation processes and controls. Ideal candidates possess strong technical expertise in annuity products, excellent analytical and communication skills, and the ability to lead complex actuarial initiatives across the organization. Key Skills & Requirements • FSA with 10+ years of life and annuity actuarial experience • Strong expertise in variable annuity products and valuation methodologies • Experience with US GAAP, Statutory, and Tax reserve calculations • Ability to analyze earnings, reserve movements, and assumption sensitivities • Proven leadership skills with experience managing teams and cross-functional initiatives • Strong analytical, technical, and communication skills with audit and regulatory exposure Smith Hanley Associates takes pride in being the premier recruiting agency serving the actuarial industry.
