About the role:
A welcoming specialist provision in Stamford is seeking a Communication Support Assistant to work with pupils who experience speech, language, and communication difficulties. The setting supports learners with a variety of SEND needs and is committed to helping pupils develop the communication skills required to access learning, build relationships, and increase independence.
The successful candidate will work alongside teaching staff and specialists to deliver targeted support that enhances communication and participation across all areas of school life. This full-time role has the flexibility to be a temp-to-perm.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support pupils with speech, language, and communication needs during classroom activities.
- Use communication aids, visual supports, and structured interventions to enhance pupil understanding.
- Encourage the development of expressive and receptive language skills.
- Support social interaction and confidence-building activities throughout the school day.
- Reinforce communication targets identified within support plans and EHCPs.
- Work alongside teaching staff to adapt resources and activities to meet individual needs.
- Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to support ongoing assessment and planning.
Pre-requisites:
- Experience supporting children or young people with SEND or communication difficulties.
- Understanding of speech, language, and communication barriers to learning.
- Ability to use visual support systems and communication strategies effectively.
- Strong communication, observation, and interpersonal skills.
- Patient, supportive, and adaptable approach to working with pupils.
- Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, support work, health, or related fields are desirable.
