CNC Programmer
Location: Newbury, Berkshire
Salary: £50,000 – £55,000 (dependent on experience)
Employment Type: Permanent, full‑time
The CNC Programmer Role
An established, high‑precision manufacturing business is seeking an experienced Offline 5‑Axis CNC Programmer / Setter / Operator to support the production of complex, tight‑tolerance components in a quality‑driven environment.
This is a hands‑on role, combining offline CNC programming with machine setup and operation. You’ll play a key part in process development, programme validation, fixturing, and continuous improvement, working closely with manufacturing and engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Offline programming, setting and operation of 4‑axis and 5‑axis CNC milling machines
- Validate and optimise CNC programs offline prior to shop floor release
- Create and maintain technical documentation including setup sheets, SOPs and LWIs
- Support manufacturability and quoting reviews for new components
- Set and run development work and production batches
- Use probing, calibration routines and datum/workplane alignment effectively
Skills & Experience Required
- Proven experience programming, setting and operating 4‑axis and 5‑axis CNC machines
- Strong understanding of machining complex components to tight tolerances
- Confident reading and interpreting engineering drawings, including GD&T
- Experience with probing cycles, tool setting and work offset control
- Solid grounding in tooling, tool life management and process control
Desirable Experience
- Experience with Edgecam (preferred)
- Exposure to Vericut
- Heidenhain and/or Fanuc CNC controls
