SEMH Teaching Assistant - Halifax

About the role:

Justteachers is seeking a full-time SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a pupil referral unit / alternative provision setting starting in June 2026 in the Halifax area to cover on a long-term, temporary basis.
The setting supports pupils who are unable to access mainstream education, delivering structured provision focused on behaviour management, re-engagement with learning and pastoral support in line with individual plans.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support pupils with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour on a 1:1 and small group basis
• Implement behaviour management strategies and de-escalation techniques in line with policy
• Collaborate with teaching staff, pastoral teams and external agencies to support engagement and emotional regulation

Pre-requisites:

• Relevant qualifications (e.g. Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant or equivalent)
• Experience supporting pupils with SEMH or within an alternative provision / PRU setting
• Knowledge of behaviour management strategies, safeguarding and SEMH support approaches
• Two education or school-based references
