About the Role
AJ Chambers is working with a Top 10 firm based in the city that is looking for a qualified Audit Manager to join their team.
You will be working on a portfolio of clients in excess of £650,000 in the firm’s Corporate team. This team is the fastest growing in the firm and is a key strategic priority for the firm. The group works with the firm’s largest clients and /or most complex audit clients. Typically these are either larger multinational private groups, AIM listed groups or smaller Public Interest Entities (PIE).
The corporate audit team focuses on mid-market private, listed and PE-backed businesses. Their clients vary in size and maturity from multi-billion pound UK headquartered groups with global operations, to smaller high-growth businesses with significant financial backing – and everything in between.
What will you be doing?
Day to day leadership of audits including being the key contact for the client, engagement partner and supporting team members
Leadership of all aspects of audit assignment including:
Job planning
Budgeting
Time management
Delegating to and supervising of team
Effective and timely communication to engagement partner and senior client contacts
Subsequent monitoring of team progress and managing projects
Detailed review of file, debriefing team with a key focus on quality and feedback
Finalisation of file for Partner review.
Experience in both substantive & controls-based audits.
Managing the audit for large groups and experience in group reporting.
Experience with cross border groups.
Plans jobs and organises assignment to ensure the job is carried out in the most efficient way possible while considering firm wide productivity.
Overseas all work, and ensures the work of staff is in line with ISO 9001 procedures
Promoting the interests of the firm with all employed by the firm, clients, prospective clients and other third parties.
Motivation and encouragement of team, providing timely constructive feedback.
Staff Management
Being a proactive and positive leader within CCS, bringing best practice from your own experience into the group and sharing perspectives on how we develop it
Overseeing and mentoring managers and trainees during their training contract providing assistance when required.
Assisting in the motivation and supervision of staff (especially trainees).
Assisting staff in finding suitable work to keep them fully occupied, also ensuring their development and progress and all staff are fully debriefed after jobs.
Assisting with in-house training.
Providing upward feedback.
Practice Development
Assisting with preparation and presentation of new client pitches
Identifying account development opportunities with clients and progressing these in liaison with the Partner.
Attending client gatherings or client seminars on an ad hoc basis.
Sharing perspectives on best practice and how we develop CCS, including leading initiatives in respect of
Administration
Providing innovative ideas to improve systems currently in practice with regards to client or staff matters.
Assisting with billing procedures.
Assisting with debt collection where appropriate in liaison with client partner.
What is required?
Qualified to ACA/ACCA or internationally recognised chartered accounting qualification
3+ years PQE
Experience leading audit teams including group audits
Experience of substantive and controls based audit testing
Happy in a high growth environment
Current experience must be a minimum of 75% audit work
High level of familiarity with UK auditing and accounting standards
Experience with listed companies and IFRS preferred
Must have experience in a Top 20 firm
Comfortable with complex technical challenges
High level of personal motivation and drive
Excellent interpersonal skills and organisational skills
Adaptable and flexible approach
Ability to motivate and encourage others
