<p><strong>Agriculture Students Needed!</strong><p><strong>Field Inspector (Summer Only)</strong><p><strong>Job Description</strong><p>The Field Inspector supports seed production operations by collecting accurate quality data from corn fields and crops. This role involves daily monitoring of fields for physical crop attributes, undesired plants, and pests, and entering all observations into designated field software in a timely and precise manner. The position requires working independently in agricultural field conditions while maintaining consistent communication with field leadership.<p><strong>Responsibilities</strong></p><ul><li>Monitor assigned seed production fields daily to assess crop quality, plant development, and overall field conditions.</li><li>Verify the accuracy of field maps at the start of the growing season and report any discrepancies promptly.</li><li>Perform accurate counts of plant silks and tassels, including both emerged tassels and tassels throwing pollen.</li><li>Identify and count undesired or off-type plants and record these findings clearly.</li><li>Rate field status accurately and immediately notify supervisors when any field falls outside established quality standards.</li><li>Record additional observations such as significant pest presence, areas of standing water or ponding, and any new or unlisted hazards in the production field.</li><li>Document glume, anther, silk, and brace root colors to confirm that physical characteristics of the crop remain consistent.</li><li>Record the number of leaves above the ear shoot for plants in each field as part of quality data collection.</li><li>Enter all inspection data and quality observations into the assigned field software daily using an electronic device.</li><li>Maintain daily communication with area leads and the field inspector lead to report progress, issues, and field status.</li><li>Follow all safety protocols and procedures while working in the fields.</li><li>Travel daily to assigned production fields and manage time effectively to complete all inspections.</li><li>Maintain good organizational practices to ensure accurate, timely, and complete data collection and reporting.</li></ul><p><strong>Essential Skills</strong></p><ul><li>Ability to work independently and manage daily travel to assigned production fields.</li><li>Basic computer knowledge and the ability to use an assigned device for data entry on a daily basis.</li><li>Excellent communication skills with the ability to maintain daily contact with area leads and the field inspector lead.</li><li>Strong organizational skills to handle multiple fields, inspections, and data records accurately.</li><li>Ability to perform accurate counts of various physical attributes of plants in each field.</li><li>Ability to follow all safety protocols consistently while working in the field.</li><li>Capability to work outside in agricultural settings, including performing physical inspection tasks in crop fields.</li></ul><p><strong>Additional Skills & Qualifications</strong></p><ul><li>Ability to accurately identify various parts of a corn plant.</li><li>Previous crop or agricultural knowledge is desired but not required.</li><li>Experience in agriculture, crop inspection, detasseling, or harvest work is beneficial.</li><li>Comfort working with agricultural inspection and labor tasks in corn and other crops.</li></ul><p><strong>Why Work Here?</strong><p>This opportunity offers hands-on experience in agricultural research and seed production, allowing you to work directly with crops in the field while building practical skills in inspection and data collection. Field inspectors travel to different production fields and spend most of the day on foot, moving through crop rows to perform inspections and counts. Work is safety sensitive, and adherence to field safety protocols is essential at all times. An assigned electronic device is used in the field for data entry and communication.</p><strong>Job Type & Location</strong><p>This is a Contract position based out of FARMER CITY, IL.</p><strong>Pay and Benefits</strong><p>The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $21.00/hr.<p>Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job
