About the Role
Barrier Operator
Job Summary:
Operates a machine to cut rolls of fabric into smaller vertical rolls to be spiral wrapped on other production machines. Sets-up and operates a machine to produce printed vapor barrier sleeves to be used to cover air ducts.
Essential Functions:
Works from verbal or written instructions to make routine set-ups.
Sets-up blades to close tolerances. Selects machine speeds and makes operating adjustments.
Uses power hoist to load full rolls of fabric onto machine. Set-up rewind bars, loads take-up cores and sets metal spacers between cores. Sets blades for proper cutting widths and pulls fabric over guide bars and through blades. Makes necessary adjustments to brake and rewind tension, blades and guide bars. Tapes finished rolls, removes and loads on skids. Routes to proper location.
Keeps materials sorted by lots and in proper order.
Sets-up Printer machine, working from load sheets and general instructions to execute the production schedule.
Starts machine, making adjustments as necessary, until standard speed is reached. Performs a normal range of duties to operate machine. Monitors sleeve alignment through process.
Checks for quality and completes quantity and production reports. Assures quality of product.
Executes necessary transactions to ensure inventory integrity.
Secondary Duties:
Replaces partial rolls to stock area.
Reports machine defects.
Records QC data on production cards.
Checks Sleeve for proper labeling.
Checks and maintains tape dispensers.
Assures availability of skids.

Qualifications:
Education: Prefer high school or GED
Require basic math skills and ability to comprehend and follow instructions.
Experience: 1 - 2 years of manufacturing experience
Skills: Judgment required to make set-ups and maintain tolerances
Special Requirements: Continuous standing
Requires considerable physical effort to maneuver heavy rolls of fabric into position to load on machine.
Working with cutting blades requires good visual perception
Full range of motion to operate Printer equipment and perform set-ups.
