Administrative Officer - Bedford County Court-AO

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS), part of the Ministry of Justice, through Brook Street.

Pay Rate: £13.25 per hour
Location: Bedford County Court
Contract Type: Temporary ongoing until September 2026 (with potential extension)
Hours: Full-time - 37 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM)

About the Role

Bedford County Court deals primarily with civil cases, including small claims, enforcement actions, and other non-criminal matters. You will play a key role in supporting the administrative processes that ensure the smooth running of court operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide face-to-face and telephone support to court users and legal professionals
• Prepare and process case files and court documentation
• Handle applications and liaise with internal and external stakeholders
• Support court hearings where required
• Scan and upload documents to internal systems
• List/schedule hearings and issue court documentation
• Process fines, fees, and payments (including card payments)

Skills & Experience Required

• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Previous administrative experience with good Microsoft Office knowledge
• Excellent organisation and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively
• Positive, proactive attitude and willingness to learn

Previous experience within a court, legal, or public sector environment is desirable but not essential.

Additional Information

• This is a fully office-based role (no remote working)
• A DBS check is required prior to starting (arranged by Brook Street)
