About the Role

About the role:

A supportive school in Lincoln is seeking an Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) to provide targeted emotional and wellbeing support for pupils who may be experiencing social, emotional, or behavioural challenges. The school is committed to promoting positive mental health and ensuring pupils feel supported both academically and emotionally.

Working closely with pastoral teams and teaching staff, you will deliver interventions that help pupils understand emotions, develop coping strategies, and improve their confidence and wellbeing. This role is to start in the new academic year and has the protentional to be extended into a permanent role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver one-to-one and small group emotional literacy interventions.
  • Support pupils in understanding and managing emotions in a healthy and constructive way.
  • Promote confidence, resilience, self-esteem, and positive wellbeing.
  • Help pupils develop social skills, friendships, and effective communication strategies.
  • Support learners experiencing anxiety, emotional dysregulation, or challenges affecting school engagement.
  • Liaise with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and families to ensure consistent support.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to wellbeing reviews and intervention planning.

Pre-requisites:

  • Experience supporting children or young people with emotional, behavioural, or wellbeing needs.
  • Understanding of emotional literacy, child development, and mental health support strategies.
  • Ability to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Strong communication, listening, and observational skills.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
  • ELSA training, wellbeing qualifications, counselling studies, youth work experience, or equivalent transferable experience would be advantageous.
