The Experienced Nurse in the Med Surge/Tele Admission Unit within the Adult Emergency Department (Day Shift) will demonstrate proficiency in the essential nursing skills and knowledge required to deliver high-quality patient care. This nurse will actively engage in unit governance, contributing to decision-making processes that enhance clinical practice and operational efficiency. Adherence to the UMMC Professional Nurse Job Charter is expected, ensuring that all care is delivered in accordance with established standards and ethical guidelines.</p><br/><p>TThe nurse will independently provide and coordinate comprehensive care to patients within their clinical specialty, effectively managing complex cases through critical thinking and sound clinical judgment. As a fully engaged and collaborative member of the multidisciplinary patient care team, this nurse will communicate clearly and professionally with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes. They will demonstrate the full scope of professional nursing practice by delivering direct patient care and actively participating in the development and implementation of strategies designed to improve patient outcomes, enhance patient satisfaction, and promote cost-effective care at the unit level.</p><p>Accountability is a cornerstone of this role. The nurse is responsible to patients and their families for the quality and safety of care throughout each episode of care. Additionally, the nurse is accountable to their peers for fostering a culture of continuous improvement and teamwork, and to the nurse manager for overall work performance, including adherence to policies, professional development, and contribution to unit goals. This position offers a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a fast-paced, patient-centered environment while advancing your nursing career in a supportive and innovative academic medical center.</p><br/><br><br><strong>Work Experience </strong><br><p><strong style="color: rgb(82, 82, 82);">Work Experience</strong></p><p><strong><u>Education and Qualifications</u></strong></p><br/><ul><li>Competent evaluation with successful passing of probation; current on all mandatory classes/training.</li><li>Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland, or eligible to practice due to Compact state agreements outlined through the MD Board of Nursing, is required.</li><li>Completion of 10 contact hours of continuing education annually.</li><li>Active membership in a relevant professional nursing organization.</li><li>Recent clinical experience in a similar healthcare environment.</li></ul><br/><p><strong><u>Knowledge, Competencies, and Abilities</u></strong></p><br/><ul><li>Demonstrated ability to lead others, such as effectiveness as charge nurse, preceptor, or clinical resource. Demonstrated effectiveness as a multidisciplinary team member.</li><li>Ability to learn and use computer systems in order to manage patient information.</li><li>Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served.
