We are looking for a versatile Applications Engineer to join our hardware team. This role is for a technical all-rounder; the successful candidate will be the primary technical partner for our industrial customers, helping them navigate the entire journey of integrating Raspberry Pi Compute Modules and silicon into their commercial products.
The successful candidate will be:
- Able to move between various projects and customers
- Able to explain technical constraints clearly and professionally, acting as a trusted adviser
- Unafraid to dive into an unfamiliar part of the stack to help a customer
- Competent in schematic capture and PCB layout (Altium, KiCad, or similar), with a solid understanding of design rules and board bring-up
- Comfortable working with software environments to help customers implement and test Raspberry Pi silicon
- Confident using standard bench equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analysers) and performing SMT soldering/rework when prototypes need modification

Key responsibilities
We are looking for someone to perform the following tasks:
- Act as the lead technical contact for customers, providing end-to-end support from initial concept through to mass production
- Assist customers with software-level hurdles, helping them integrate our silicon into their unique software environments and form factors
- Translate complex technical information into clear and accessible application notes, white papers, and guides for the wider industrial community
- Take a hands-on approach, whether that’s using bench equipment to diagnose a hardware failure or debugging a software integration issue

What you’ll be doing:
- Build, develop, and maintain high-performance runtime and compiler components, focusing on end-to-end inference optimization.
- Define and implement mappings of large-scale inference workloads onto NVIDIA’s systems.
- Extend and integrate with NVIDIA’s SW ecosystem, contributing to libraries, tooling, and interfaces that enable seamless deployment of models across platforms.
- Benchmark, profile, and monitor key performance and efficiency metrics to ensure the compiler generates efficient mappings of neural network graphs to our inference hardware.
- Collaborate closely with hardware architects and design teams to feedback software observations, influence future architectures, and codesign features that unlock new performance and efficiency points.
- Prototype and evaluate new compilation and runtime techniques, including graph transformations, scheduling strategies, and memory/layout optimizations tailored to spatial processors.
- Publish and present technical work on novel compilation approaches for inference and related spatial accelerators at top tier ML, compiler, and computer architecture venues.
- MS or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience, with 6 years of relevant experience.
- Strong software engineering background with proficiency in systems level programming (e.g., C/C++ and/or Rust) and solid CS fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, and concurrency.
- Hands on experience with compiler or runtime development, including IR design, optimization passes, or code generation.
- Experience with LLVM and/or MLIR, including building custom passes, dialects, or integrations.
- Familiarity with deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch, and experience working with portable graph formats such as ONNX.
- Solid understanding of parallel and heterogeneous compute architectures, such as GPUs, spatial accelerators, or other domain specific processors.
- Strong analytical and debugging skills, with experience using profiling, tracing, and benchmarking tools to drive performance improvements.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across hardware, systems, and software teams.
- Ideal candidates will have direct experience with MLIR based compilers or other multilevel IR stacks, especially in the context of graph based deep learning workloads.
- Prior work on spatial or dataflow architectures, including static scheduling, pipeline parallelism, or tensor parallelism at scale.
- Contributions to opensource ML frameworks, compilers, or runtime systems, particularly in areas related to performance or scalability.

Viridian Solar is a market leader for roof-integrated solar panels in the UK with recent success in opening new opportunities in Europe. Our aesthetic in-roof solar panels are now commonplace on new homes. Viridian Solar is fast-growing company with exciting times ahead.
Your role is customer facing and covers a wide range of activities. You will be responsible for ensuring that our customers receive the highest level of service, ranging from investigating and solving problems, which may be complex and involve many interested parties, to ensuring minor delivery errors and faults are corrected promptly. There will also be times that you work with the order fulfilment team ensuring delivery of goods is optimised, and with the R&D team to offer improvements to our products.
Based both in the office, and on the road, you will visit customers at construction sites right across the UK and possibly in other European countries. You will need to train and offer customers first hand support on PV installations mainly focusing on the electrical aspect, with the occasional full installation including the PV on roof panel installation. You may also be required to inspect completed jobs, and perform quality inspections of our products.
Your background may be from outside or within the solar industry, but you need to be confident and have had a history of working with electrical equipment and signing off systems. More important is that you are keen to energetically present our products and the company to our customers and end users or our products in a helpful and positive way and become their first line of call regarding any support they may require.
It would be an advantage to be familiar with current electrical installation regulations and PV installation practice, but training can be provided.
You will monitor all areas of customer support and have an eye for how we can improve our products or services. You will be the frontline support for our customers when they require advice on installation of EV chargers and Inverters.
Responsibilities
- Delivering technical support and product training to our customer base. This could be in writing, by telephone, in person on site or at head office.
- Solving customer complaints or difficulties, providing advice, devising and implementing solutions.
- Monthly reporting of customer support metrics, and accurate record keeping.
- Producing, updating and circulating written information and guidance for our customers.
- Becoming the point of contact for inbound product enquiries, and responding to these quickly whether on the move or in the office.
- Providing Solar Electrical set up i.e. Batteries/Inverters/car charger set up training
- Responding to problems that customers might encounter
- Handling inbound enquiries through email or telephone
- Keeping accurate notes of discussions or correspondence with customers
- Periodically visiting sites where equipment has been installed to review product quality and durability or help customers resolve issues
- Visiting customers at their premises to perform quality checks on product samples
- Contacting customers to ensure that we are aware of their future ordering requirements
- Write, carry out, analyse and report periodic surveys of customer satisfaction
- Practical and hands-on, able to work at roof height on construction sites
- Experience with the commissioning side of PV installations including Inverters, Batteries and Electric Vehicle Chargers would be an advantage
