About the Role
A special ‘Peace in Practice’ event in Armagh brought together civic, education and academic voices from Coventry and across Northern Ireland to share learning, strengthen relationships and explore practical approaches to building community and sustaining peace.
Coventry is recognised internationally as a City of Peace and Reconciliation, providing a powerful setting for reflection and shared learning for a recent study visit.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Lord Mayor Councillor Jessica Johnston said: “This shared learning day has been a wonderful opportunity for partners to come together and connect and reflect on practical ways we can continue to build trust, understanding and positive change in our shared housing communities.”
Representatives from Triangle’s Shared Housing Advisory Groups across NI, including Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon (ABC) Borough Council visited Coventry in December 2025. Through the study visit they explored how civic leadership, education, culture, community voice and housing can help rebuild trust, strengthen inclusion and build peace following division and conflict.
Delegates from the study visit reconvened for the shared learning day, which welcomed keynote speakers from ABC Council, Coventry City Council, Coventry Irish Society, University of Liverpool, Centre for Democracy and Peace, International School for Peace Studies and Coventry’s official Lady Godiva and Director of the Godiva Trust!
David Walsh, Neighbourhood & Communities Investment Co-ordinator at Triangle Housing added; “At Triangle, we see every day how shared housing can provide the foundation for stronger, more connected communities. Peace in Practice reflects our commitment to turning the principles of good relations into meaningful, lived experiences for residents. Bringing together voices from Coventry and Northern Ireland allows us to learn from one another and continue building trust, inclusion and opportunity across our neighbourhoods and communities.”
Musicians from Armagh Pipers Club and Saints and Scholars Primary School choir provided entertainment during the event.
The peace and reconciliation programme is funded by The Executive Office Together: Building a United Community, the Northern Ireland Housing Executive’s Housing for All programme and The Lord Mayor’s Coventry Peace Committee.
