JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Gym Supervisor Directorate: Student Services & Quality Centre: Huntingdon Reporting To: Student Personal Development Manager Date JD produced/revised: November 2025 The primary purpose of this job role is to; The primary purpose of this job role is a day-to-day operation of the Gym and assessment and supervision of Gym users. The primary duties, tasks and responsibilities of this job role are to; S uper vision of the Gym . Sets up, d ismantles and stores equipment Promotes sport to students and staff and local Community Maintain Health and Safety Professional development Actively support the college’s values, policies and procedures, particularly responding to those relating to health and safety, safeguarding, equality and diversity, data protection and information sharing. Be familiar with and promote safeguarding requirements, as outlines in the safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults Policy and Procedure and ensure you undertake appropriate training provided by the college. Be prepared to undertake First Aid Training and be part of the staff team responding to first aid emergencies when required. Carry out such duties and responsibilities under Health and safety at Work ( etc. ) Act 1974 and associate legislation as described in the College’s Health and Safety policy documents. Adhere to the Risk Management Policy and to notify your line manager of any identified risk. Maintain professional standards and relationships, including non-discriminatory practices, and to maintain a high level of confidentiality and discretion. Such other duties commensurate with the grade of the post as may be reasonably required at any of the college locations. Job Activities 1. Supervision of the Gym 1.1 Supervises acc ess to the building by students and staff 1.2 Ensures that facility users comp ly with the Gym rules 1.3 Supervises and leads user activity when required ie Cross College Sport and Exercise Classes 1.4 S upervise users of the gym to include member inductions and writing fitness programmes and general cleaning. 2. Sporting Equipment 2.1 Takes responsibility for setting up and providing the appropriate sporting equipment to the facility users. 2.2 Dismantle and stores equipment correctly and safely after use. 2.3 Ensures equipment is safe in accordance with the relevant Health and Safety regulations. 2.4 Undertakes stock checks when required. 2.5 Maintains and cleans equipment and facilities to specified standards. 3. Front of House and Administration 3.1 Processes cash, cheque and credit card payments through the cash register. 3.2 Liaises with user groups to ensure their needs are met. 4. Supervise Fitness Gym 4.1 Carry out Student and staff induction as and when required. 5. Promotion of Sport And Fitness 5.1 Maintain attendance figures for all activities using registers and tracking sheets 5.2 Help organise and lead sport and fitness activities to all user groups. 5.3 Ensure notice boards are relevant and up to date promoting and advertising to college staff, students and public user groups and replenish leaflet displays regularly. 5.4 Organise and run sport and fitness promotions to increase participation from all user groups 5.5 Lead circuit based exercise classes as and when required 5.6 Collate information for promotional activities 6. Maintain Health and Safety 6.1 Carry out daily checks when opening and closing following up on any necessary action. Carry out regular patrols throughout the day dealing with any issues that arise. 6.3 Record/report any maintenance requirements arranging removal/closure of any equipment if necessary. 6.4 Supervise set up and dismantling of equipment at the start and end of lessons when Needed. 6.5 Carries out daily safety/security procedures to ensure the facility is safe and secure General 7.1 Maintains the appearance of all areas in the Gym 7.2 Be prepared to undertake courses/qualifications to improve the standard of provision for clients. The resource management responsibilities of this role are; Financial: None People Management: None Other: Special conditions or working arrangements applicable to this role are; Due to the nature of the post, the postholder is required to hold an enhanced DBS disclosure check deemed acceptable to the college and to be re - checked every 4 years. Terms and Conditions Details Salary Scale APT&C Scale 5 Salary: (to be pro rated if part-time) £25,192 - £2 7,152 per annum (pro-rated) Superannuation Scheme: Local government pension scheme Number of hours to be worked per week 22.5 hours Full year or term time only contract Term time only (40 weeks) Contract type Permanent Annual Leave Entitlement annual leave will be paid in salary EMPLOYEE PROFILE Post: Gym Supervisor ATTRIBUTES ESSENTIAL ATTRIBUTES CANDIATES MUST HAVE ON ENTERING THE ROLE ADDITIONAL KEY ATTRIBUTES ALREADY HELD OR TO BE DEVELOPED TO PERFORM THE ROLE ASSESSMENT METHOD e.g., application form, interview, tests Qualifications Educated to NVQ 2 or equivalent Up to date First Aid Certificate A Level 2 gym qualification 2 groups exercise class qualifications. A Minimum of one coaching award e.g. football, basketball, netball, CSLA Experience with climbing walls Additional e xercise class qualifications e.g. circuits, boxfit, studio cycling Level 3 – Personal Trainer Assessor Qualification Verifier Qualification Application Form Certificates Related Experience Recent experience working within a health and fitness environment including teaching exercise classes. Organisation and supervision of student sports activities and children’s activities.
