About the Role
Propulsion Test Engineer II
The Team:
The Performance and Drivability Development Team oversees the calibration of vehicle parameters concerning acceleration characteristics, fuel economy, and powertrain behavior of Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis NA vehicle models
The Position:
The Propulsion Test Engineer II would work with subject propulsion systems (i.e., internal combustion, hybrid-electric, and battery-electric) of diverse vehicle segments, utilizing in-vehicle testing, customer research, and subjective performance evaluation to support lead engineers in defining and achieving targets
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Instrument test vehicles with a variety of sensors (e.g., accelerometers, thermocouples, microphones, etc.) to collect data for characterizing and monitoring the vehicles' performance and fuel economy
Identify drivability and fuel economy strengths and weaknesses, in addition to conducting root cause analysis via measured data to determine the powertrain control strategies that contribute to the identified behaviors
Plan and participate in test trips where vehicles are evaluated in a wide range of driving conditions and environments
Collaborate with lead engineers in validating drivability strategies that support US market expectations
Perform powertrain performance testing and assist in the collection and analysis of vehicle data
Partake in drive events with a panel of engineers and evaluators, providing the perspective of a powertrain evaluator and offering context to the comments of other evaluators
Travel up to 30%, both domestically and internationally
WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE
Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, mechanical, electrical, or a related field of engineering
4+ years of experience working with propulsion systems
Proficiency in MATLAB and Simulink
Experience performing vehicle evaluations
Data and root cause analysis skills
Familiarity with performing testing, validation, research, and benchmarking activities/tasks concerning propulsion-related systems
Experience with automotive data acquisition and analysis tools and sensors
Understanding of vehicle dynamics and fuel economy principles
Proficiency in Microsoft programs, such as Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word
Flexibility with program and process changes, as Hyundai/Kia/Genesis is willing to make late changes to satisfy customer needs
Excellent time management, self-management, and organization skills
Strong written, oral, and interpersonal skills
Ability to explain technical topics to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Valid Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record
