About the Role
The specific position is in the area of valve engineering, where the individual will be responsible for standard Navy and vendor proprietary valve designs used in naval nuclear plants. Interest in adapting new concepts and technologies is desired. Immediate emphasis will be on supporting existing valve designs via problem resolution, design improvement, and maintenance procedure refinement.
Researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.
Must Have
Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant exempt experience;
Master’s Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience;
Ph.D. and 0 years of experience.
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
Nice to Have
The ideal candidate will have the following:
General knowledge of design, operation, and/or testing of power plant systems and components
Ability to apply engineering principles, theory, technology, and tools to analyze and resolve engineering problems of moderate complexity
Familiarity with general manufacturing processes as well as military and commercial requirements for welding, nondestructive testing, and materials science
Excellent verbal and technical writing skills
Experience in project management
