<strong>Highways Inspector</strong><br><strong>£29 per hour | South East London | Full-time</strong><br> <br>We’re looking for an experienced Highways Inspector to join a Highways and Traffic team in Greenwich. This is a great opportunity for someone with strong highways knowledge who enjoys working out on site, dealing with contractors and helping maintain safe, high-quality highways for residents.<br> <br><strong>What you’ll do</strong><br><strong> </strong><br>Carry out routine highway safety inspections and identify defects requiring action.<br>Inspect contractor and statutory undertaker works, checking quality, materials and compliance with specifications.<br>Respond to residents’ service requests, complaints and queries.<br>Carry out pre- and post-highway licence inspections.<br>Liaise with contractors, utility companies and other stakeholders on site.<br>Issue works orders for repairs identified during inspections, within delegated limits.<br>Carry out site measurements, surveys and inspections to support contractor payments and works.<br>Supervise minor maintenance contracts and monitor works on site.<br>Provide technical advice and ensure works meet relevant specifications, codes and safety standards.<br> <br><strong>What we’re looking for</strong><br> <br>Strong practical experience in highways inspection and maintenance.<br>Good knowledge of highway construction methods, materials and relevant legislation.<br>Experience inspecting and supervising contractor and utility company works.<br>The ability to identify defects and make appropriate decisions regarding repairs.<br>Good communication skills and confidence dealing with contractors, residents and other stakeholders.<br>The ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and make decisions on site.<br>A good understanding of health and safety requirements.<br> <br>Experience with highway safety inspections, minor works, highways licences, contractor supervision and defect management would be particularly valuable.<br> <br><strong>The opportunity</strong><br> <br>Rate: £29 per hour<br>Location: Royal Borough of Greenwich<br>Department: Transport – Highways & Traffic
