Middle Weight 3D Design Engineer
Our client, a leading Point of Sale company, are seeking a Middle Weight 3D Design Engineer. This role offers the opportunity to work within a dynamic environment where creativity meets manufacturing excellence.
About the Role
Reporting directly to the Design Director, you will be a vital member of the engineering design team, translating visualised concepts into precise and manufacturable drawings. Your work will ensure that all displays meet aesthetic, functional, and budgetary requirements, aligning with customer expectations. Collaboration across departments—including Sales, Creative Design, Estimating, Prototype, and Production—is key to your success.
Key Responsibilities
- Design solutions in 3D CAD based on approved visuals and briefs, creating prototype and manufacturing drawings.
- Develop functional, attractive, and manufacturable POS displays within specified timelines and budgets.
- Liaise with Account & Project Managers to develop customer-focused solutions.
- Collaborate with conceptual designers to faithfully realise creative visions.
- Work closely with the Estimating Department to ensure designs are within budgetary constraints.
- Review prototypes with the Prototype Department, making adjustments as required for production.
- Coordinate with factory departments during production for verification of construction, specifications, and quality standards.
- Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including detailed drawings, Bills of Materials, QC guidelines, and technical specifications.
- Provide regular updates on project status to the Line Manager.
Candidate Profile
- 2-5 years' experience in a Design Engineer role, with a readiness to progress to the next level.
- Relevant Design Engineering degree preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in design for manufacturing, with retail display or POS background ideal.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a positive, lateral thinking approach.
- Comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing processes, both within and outside of a factory setting.
- Excellent time management skills to prioritise and deliver projects on time.
- Awareness of customer relationship management and the overall project lifecycle.
- High attention to detail and computer literacy, particularly MS Office and 3D CAD software (ideally SolidWorks).
- Confident communicator capable of presenting ideas clearly and convincingly.
- Self-motivated, requiring minimal supervision, with the ability to work independently or collaboratively.
- Willingness to be involved across all areas of the business.
