About the role:
Justteachers is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive specialist provision in the Wakefield area on a long-term basis. This full-time position is due to start in September, with shortlisting currently underway. The setting is committed to providing a safe, structured and nurturing environment where pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs can build confidence, resilience and achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities:
• Supporting pupils with SEMH needs to access learning and engage positively in classroom activities
• Implementing behaviour support plans, de-escalation techniques and emotional regulation strategies
• Building trusting relationships with pupils to encourage positive behaviour and personal development
• Working closely with teachers, pastoral teams and external agencies to support pupil wellbeing and progress
Pre-requisites:
• Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, youth work, support work or a related field
• Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs
• Strong understanding of behaviour management, emotional regulation and de-escalation strategies
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive professional relationships
• Two recent education or school-based references
