Roles & Responsibilities - Housing Resolutions Officer
Assess and resolve housing issues for customers, focusing on prevention and relief of homelessness in line with the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
Provide tailored housing advice and options to applicants, including private rented sector, social housing, and supported accommodation.
Carry out housing needs assessments and produce Personalised Housing Plans (PHPs) with reasonable steps to resolve housing situations.
Investigate homelessness applications, determine duties owed, and issue statutory decisions where required.
Work proactively with landlords, letting agents, and accommodation providers to secure suitable housing solutions.
Negotiate to prevent evictions, including rent arrears repayment plans and mediation between tenants and landlords.
Arrange and monitor temporary accommodation placements where necessary.
Identify and respond to safeguarding concerns involving vulnerable adults and children, making appropriate referrals.
Liaise with internal teams and external agencies such as social services, health providers, and voluntary organisations to support applicants.
Manage a caseload of complex housing cases, prioritising workloads to meet statutory timescales.
Ensure all casework is compliant with housing legislation, statutory guidance, and local authority policies.
Maintain accurate records and produce clear, legally compliant correspondence and decision letters.
Contribute to service improvement by identifying barriers to housing resolution and proposing practical solutions.
Deliver a customer-focused service, ensuring applicants understand their rights, responsibilities, and housing options.
Support the council's objectives to reduce homelessness and promote sustainable housing outcomes.
