About the role:
A friendly and supportive Autism Specialist School in Spalding is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join their team on a full-time basis from September. The school provides a personalised and structured learning environment for children and young people with Autism, helping pupils to develop academically, socially, and emotionally while building independence and confidence. This role has the potential to extend and become permanent.
Key Responsibilities:
- Working closely with teachers and other professionals, you will play a key role in supporting pupils to access learning, manage routines, and achieve their individual goals within a nurturing and inclusive setting.
- Support the delivery of differentiated and engaging lessons, working alongside teaching staff to adapt activities and break down learning into manageable steps.
- Use autism-friendly strategies, including visual supports, structured routines, sensory-aware approaches, and clear communication techniques to support pupil engagement.
- Reinforce learning objectives and key concepts to help pupils access the curriculum and achieve positive outcomes.
- Provide calm, consistent support to encourage positive behaviours, emotional regulation, and social development.
- Assist pupils with transitions, daily routines, and individual learning targets, promoting independence wherever possible.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and families to ensure pupils receive the support they need to thrive.
Pre-requisites:
- Experience supporting children or young people with Autism and SEND, or additional learning needs within education, care, youth work, or similar settings.
- Understanding of autism and the ability to adapt support to meet individual communication, sensory, and learning needs.
- Confidence in using a range of strategies to engage pupils, including visual aids, task modelling, structured teaching approaches, and positive behaviour support.
- Strong communication, patience, and relationship-building skills.
- Relevant qualifications such as Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant, Childcare, Health & Social Care, Youth Work, or equivalent practical experience are desirable.
