Role Overview
The Senior Underwriter / Team Lead is a player-coach role responsible for driving underwriting output, improving decision quality, and coaching a team of underwriters and sales representatives. This person sets the tone for credit discipline, turnaround speed, and operating standards, while maintaining strong visibility into profitability tied to the team’s performance.

Location
This position is onsite in NYC or Ridgewood, NJ

Key Responsibilities
- Lead complex underwriting decisions and escalations.
- Oversee profitability for a team consisting of ISO Reps and Underwriters
- Set decision frameworks and quality thresholds for team output.
- Coach, train, and performance-manage underwriters.
- Partner with revenue/production leadership to improve conversion quality.
- Monitor approval quality, decline trends, and downstream portfolio behavior.
- Maintain SLA discipline for turnaround and communication.
- Help hire and onboard additional underwriting talent as needed.

Required Skills/Experience
- 5+ years underwriting experience in MCA/revenue-based/specialty SMB lending.
- Prior leadership experience as senior underwriter, team lead, or manager.
- Proven ability to balance speed with disciplined risk controls.
- Strong judgment, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Track record of improving team consistency and throughput.

Nice to Haves
- Experience building underwriting scorecards/frameworks.
- Experience leading in high-volume broker/ISO originations.
- Exposure to portfolio analytics and performance calibration.
