Secondary Learning Support Assistant Leeds

About the role:

justteachers is working with a welcoming and supportive secondary school in Leeds that is looking to appoint a dedicated Secondary Teaching Assistant on a temporary supply basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a patient, proactive and enthusiastic individual who is passionate about supporting young people’s learning, confidence and development within a secondary school environment.

The successful candidate will work closely with teachers, pastoral staff and support teams to help pupils access learning, remain engaged in lessons and make positive progress. The role may include classroom support, one-to-one assistance and small-group intervention across Key Stages 3 and 4.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support pupils across the secondary age range within the classroom.
• Provide one-to-one and small-group support where required.
• Assist class teachers in delivering engaging and inclusive lessons.
• Support pupils with additional learning needs, including SEND, SEMH or EAL where required.
• Encourage positive behaviour, independence and engagement in learning.
• Work closely with teaching staff, SEN staff and pastoral teams to support pupil progress and wellbeing.

Pre-requisites:

• Experience working with secondary-aged pupils in a school, youth work or support setting.
• Confidence supporting pupils in a classroom, one-to-one or small-group setting.
• A calm, patient and resilient approach.
• The ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• A relevant Teaching Assistant qualification, such as Level 2 or Level 3, or equivalent experience.
