About the Role

My client is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer (Decarbonisation & Energy Solutions) to join our team in Manchester. The Senior Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for the delivery of high-quality electrical designs for decarbonisation and sustainable retrofit projects. Focus on low-carbon systems such as solar PV, battery storage, LED lighting, and building power infrastructure. Provide technical leadership, design coordination, and mentoring within a multidisciplinary team. What Will You Deliver? Electrical Design & Engineering • Strong technical grounding in LV electrical design to integrate low-carbon energy solutions, such as power distribution, solar PV, battery storage, LED lighting, and smart controls for the integration of heat pumps, and other energy-efficiency measures typical of sustainable retrofit into commercial, public-sector and mixed-use buildings . 1. Proven experience in solar PV design, including ground-mounted systems and building-integrated solutions (BIPV). 2. Ability to integrate PV systems with electrical infrastructure and low-carbon technologies for retrofit and new-build projects. • Sound understanding of mechanical building services to enable effective coordination. • Competent in detailed design from RIBA Stage 2 to 5, including calculations, SLDs, schematics, schedules and technical reports. • Experience with Distribution Network Operators (DNOs), feasibility through to applications. • Proficient in AutoCAD and a good working knowledge of BIM workflows (Revit desirable). • Ability to lead electrical design packages on multi-disciplinary projects. • Ability to check, QA, and sign off electrical designs (BS 7671, IET Wiring Regs, UK Building Regs). Design Management and Team Development • Undertake design and design coordination and management, integrating mechanical, and energy systems for seamless project execution. • Produce and develop technical reports, drawings, and specifications. • Comfortable leading client and contractor discussions, including technical presentations. • Experienced in Design & Build and Traditional procurement routes. • Able to mentor junior engineers and enhance team capability. • Strong organisational skills, able to manage multiple concurrent projects and deadlines. • Commercial awareness to support bids, scopes of work and fee proposals. • Assist in identifying design risks and contribute to risk mitigation strategies and manage the design risk registers. Experience: • Strong expertise in electrical systems design, retrofit strategies, and energy optimisation such as power systems, solar PV, battery storage, lighting systems, and smart controls. • Strong understanding of BS 7671, IET Wiring Regs, CIBSE, PAS 2035, MCS, Building Safety Act, and UK building regulations as relevant. • Strong presentation and communications skills, both verbal and written. • Working knowledge of BIM and CAD software, ensuring seamless design coordination/ collaboration.
