Job Title: Carding Maintenance Engineer Location: Bridgwater Department: Engineering Reporting to: Head of Engineering Company Overview Our client is a rapidly growing manufacturing business operating within a specialist materials sector, with projected turnover exceeding £60M this year. The organisation is focused on increasing production capacity, exceeding customer expectations, and delivering high-quality bespoke products within a fast-paced environment. The Role An opportunity has arisen for a hands-on and proactive Carding Engineer to join the engineering team. You will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and optimising carding machinery to ensure consistent performance and minimal downtime. This is a key role in supporting production output and maintaining high-quality standards within a manufacturing setting. Key Responsibilities Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on carding equipment Respond quickly and effectively to machinery breakdowns Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults Work collaboratively with production and engineering teams to improve machine reliability Maintain accurate maintenance records Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives Support and mentor operators and apprentices Reduce reliance on external contractors through effective in-house solutions Assist with spare parts management and asset care planning Ensure all work complies with health, safety, and environmental standards Experience & Qualifications Essential NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering Proven experience working with carding machinery in a manufacturing environment Strong fault-finding skills across mechanical and electrical systems Experience in root cause analysis and continuous improvement Ability to work both independently and as part of a team Methodical and analytical approach to problem-solving Strong communication and documentation skills Proactive approach to maintenance and reliability Commitment to health & safety and quality standards Experience mentoring or supporting junior staff Desirable Background in textile manufacturing or similar process-driven industry Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles Experience supporting capital projects or equipment upgrades Salary & Package Salary: £56,500 per annum Shift Pattern: 12-hour shifts (2 days, 2 nights, followed by 4 days off) Benefits 22 days annual leave + 8 bank holidays Annual leave increases with service (up to 25 days) Christmas & New Year shutdown (some leave required) Pension: 4% employer / 5% employee Free onsite parking Onsite canteen Health & wellbeing platform (including GP access, discounts, and mental health support) Cycle to work scheme Company uniform provided If this role is of interest please press apply or reach out to Ryan Guy on 07837434353 or Ryan@kingstonbarnes.com
