Safran Electronics & Defense
Civil & military equipment manufacturer with deep technological roots
Safran Electronics & Defense is an international company with over 19,000 employees. They mobilize their expertise and team spirit to design high-tech solutions in the aerospace, defense, and space industries. By combining human and technological intelligence, the company develops products and services to help civilian and military players on land, at sea, in the sky, and space.
OUR EXPERTISE
Observe
To provide the best possible understanding of the environment. To perceive the environment, see the invisible, see without being seen, and see infinitely far thanks to our optronic equipment, our mirrors for telescopes and satellites, etc. Detecting movement, thanks to our sensors, image processing, beacons, etc. Monitor space infrastructures and communications, thanks to our radiofrequency sensors. Thanks to our instrumentation solutions and data loggers, radio communication and geolocation systems and terrestrial reception antennas collect and communicate data.
Decide
Reduce mental load and guarantee the safety of the mission. Analyze the environment, interpret information, and ensure its integrity with our data processing software, threat detection technologies, cyber protection solutions, and accurate dating. Control critical equipment with our engine and aeronautical systems computers. Autonomize aeronautical, land, or naval platforms. Prepare missions with our trajectory simulators.
Guide
Guarantee a trajectory, even in hostile environments. Control orientation with our inertial measurement units (IMU), actuators, etc. Navigate with precision, even without a satellite system, thanks to our Navigation & Timing solutions. Follow a trajectory with our telemetry antennas, flight control systems, cockpit solutions, and parachute systems. Reach a target with precision, thanks to our inertial units, homing heads, sights, etc. Impelling movement with our plasma thrusters, etc.
Preparing for the aviation of tomorrow
Faced with the urgent challenge of climate change, we contribute to developing low-carbon aircraft through our expertise in avionics. Our onboard electronics in aeronautical systems are becoming increasingly intelligent, helping to shape the contours of a more electric aircraft. Our data management solutions make aircraft more connected. Our optimized, lighter equipment makes aircraft more energy-efficient. Our innovations for tomorrow's aeronautics will support the sector's drive toward carbon neutrality by 2050.
Supporting the sovereignty of States
In an increasingly unpredictable world, we provide armed forces with solutions, tools, and equipment that guarantee their technological superiority. Our optronic, inertial, and PNT solutions are critical defense systems at the heart of surveillance and deterrence. By designing technologies to protect soldiers and populations, we contribute to global balance, a crucial challenge given current geopolitical tensions.
Contributing to a sovereign space
Space is a field of research and exploration that has also become the scene of significant industrial, political, and economic challenges. Guaranteeing access to space sustainably and autonomously is a challenge for everyone. By providing the critical building blocks for assembling a satellite and having a detailed knowledge of the space situation, we give the keys to the sovereign control of space. Our navigation tools for launch vehicles, critical Earth-space radio communication systems, and advanced optical equipment make Safran a key player in access to space and observation and scientific missions such as the James Webb telescope and the JUICE mission.

OUR COMMITMENTS
Our Commitment to Innovation
For Safran, innovation is more than just a goal: it's a performance driver and a sine qua non-condition for competitiveness.
Our teams live, cultivate, and experiment with innovation daily. The company offers its employees numerous opportunities to unleash their creativity through participatory innovation, challenges, and actual events. Safran Electronics & Defense also challenges students by inviting them to participate in innovation competitions explicitly designed for them. Saving humanity that has become blind or dependent on robots, building and flying a functional drone, these competitions address current and future topics, allow for the birth of ideas, explore them in a playful context, and identify talent!
Our Commitment to Quality
A "co-innovation" with customers, driving performance and satisfaction.
Operational excellence is at the heart of Safran Electronics & Defense's values, making customer satisfaction its measure of success. Quality is part of our genetic heritage and forms the foundation of trusting customer relationships. From selecting components to manufacturing our products, our teams anticipate and implement processes, many of which are certified, to ensure the performance of our technologies. Many of these processes result from joint developments with our customers, which enables us to work closely with their needs and is an honor for us.
Our Commitment to Decarbonisation
Safran Electronics & Defense's Low Carbon Plan 2018-2030.
Our low-carbon actions, initiated in 2012 and formalized in 2018 in an ambitious plan up to 2030, aim to activate three primary levers: energy efficiency, frugality, and the use of renewable energies. Our objectives are ambitious: a 42% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2025 compared to 2018, 50% by 2030, and carbon neutrality by 2050. To achieve these objectives, Safran Electronics & Defense has launched numerous projects to reduce the environmental footprint of its operations, particularly at production sites. We also work hand in hand with our suppliers to promote the eco-design of our products—the result: improved environmental performance throughout their life cycle and for all their environmental impacts.

The Gender Equality Index is calculated in accordance with French law (Law of September 5, 2018, and its implementing decree of January 8, 2019) regarding professional equality between men and women. French companies with 50 or more employees are legally required to measure and publish these five gender equality indicators annually. This requirement is specific to French employment law and does not apply to Safran's operations in other countries, where local employment practices and regulations govern employment practices.
In addition, the law "aimed at accelerating economic and professional equality between women and men" of December 24, 2021 (known as the Rixain law) creates a new obligation to feminize the management bodies of companies with over 1,000 employees. At Safran, the professional development policy for women, their access to positions of responsibility, the detection of their potential, and support for their professional development are priorities that we have also extended to our relations with engineering schools and universities for several years.
Within the scope of Safran Electronics & Defense SAS, the indicators relating to representation gaps in 2025 between women and men in positions of greater responsibility were as follows:
Percentage of women and men among all senior managers: 18,67 % / 81,33 %
Percentage of women and men among all members of governing bodies: 27,78 % / 72,22 %
