To celebrate this year’s Compost Awareness Week, residents are being offered the chance to win a home composting bin, two bags of compost and a composting guide.
Compost Awareness Week which runs from Sunday 3 May to Saturday 9 May, is an important opportunity to highlight why we should all be recycling our food and compostable garden waste and maximising our brown bins.
Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon (ABC) Borough Council have produced a video in partnership with Natural World Products and Donaghcloney’s Walter Ferris, to show the process of how our food waste is transformed into nutrient-rich compost which is used to grow more food and floral displays in our communities.
To help inspire more local people to get involved, ABC Council is offering residents the chance to win one of ten prizes of a home composting bin, two bags of compost and a composting guide. All you have to do is watch the video (which will be published on our Facebook page on Monday 3 May), and name the five items (highlighted in the video) which can be composted in the brown bin.
Thanks to the efforts of local people, thousands of tonnes of food and garden waste is recycled into quality compost each year by Natural World Products, which is used in horticulture and to help grow local food produce.
Lord Mayor of ABC Borough, Alderman Stephen Moutray said: “At this time of year, many of our residents are busy cutting grass and looking after their gardens so it’s a good time to show just what happens to our compostable garden and food waste which goes into the brown bins.
“It’s very rewarding to see that the recycling efforts of our residents helps to produce this wonderful compost. And this year, we are giving ten local people the chance to have a go at composting at home, by winning one of our home composting bins, as well as the bags of compost.”
To enter the competition watch our video on the ABC Council Facebook page and send your answers along with your name, address, contact telephone number and email address to: recyclingcompetition@armaghbanbridgecraigavon.gov.uk
