This appointment is a full-time, non-tenure track, 12-month position. The appointment may be renewed on a yearly basis depending on curricular needs.

The Legal Writing Department is comprised of a director and three lecturers, who typically teach two sections of students per semester. The director sets the legal writing syllabus and major writing assignments. Lecturers develop their own lesson plans and pedagogical approach to the materials in a collaborative environment. Law librarians provide coordinated instruction in research and citation.

Outside of the classroom, lecturers spend substantial time reading and critiquing students’ writing in addition to meeting individually with students. The department meets as a group on a regular basis to share ideas and ensure that students are on track to meet curricular goals.

Legal Research and Writing is a two-semester, six-credit course focused on introducing basic lawyering skills with an emphasis on objective and persuasive writing, as well as research and oral argument skills.
