Trainee Accountant </h2>

We are looking to recruit a Trainee Accountant into our 40+ person VolkerRail (VR) Finance Team reporting into the Corporate Team.</p>

VR is part of VolkerWessels UK (VWUK), turnover £1billion, a subsidiary of a Dutch family owned global construction group, Royal VolkerWessels B.V., with a turnover of €6.6billion. The UK is an important market for VW where it operates in the rail, highways, construction, civils, and infrastructure sectors. VR operates as a group of 2 companies, 5 business units and 2 joint ventures, has a turnover of c£200m, has over 1,000 employees and provides a wide range of contracting services to the railway industry.</p>

Key responsibilities of the role will include</h2>

• Provide support to the Corporate Finance Team in all aspects of their roles.

  • Provide support to the Cash & Receivables Manager. This will involve assistance in the following areas:
    
    
    • Process Cash received into the business
      
      • Ensure the correct allocation of receipts to contracts</li>
      • Daily banking</li>
      • Maintain Cashbooks</li>
      • Posting cash</li>
      • Bank and General ledger reconciliations</li>
      • General housekeeping

        • • Process weekly payment runs
            • Liaise with AP teams regard to proposed payments</li>
            • Processing payment runs and manual payments
              
              </li> </ul> </li> </ul> </li> </ul>
              • • Cash forecasting
                  • Production of the Weekly Cash Forecast</li>
                  • Attend weekly cash calls with the business and internal finance</li>
                  • Interrogate the robustness of forecasts

                  • Assist in the preparation of tax information as part of the group tax submissions. This will involve:
                    
                    
                    • assistance in analysing information required in producing the corporation tax returns, including analysis of capital expenditure.
                      
                      </li> </ul> </li> </ul>
                      • • assistance in analysing information required in producing the VAT returns, including foreign transactions, GL reconciliations.
                          
                          </li> </ul> </li>
                        • • assistance in producing the monthly CIS returns.
                            
                            </li> </ul> </li>
                          • Assist in producing monthly balance sheet reconciliations and files for review.
                            
                            </li>
                          • Assist in extracting data and producing information in support of the monthly training reports for the Training Business Review meetings.
                            
                            </li>
                          • Any other ad hoc duties as deemed to be appropriate for the role.</li> </ul> About you</h2>
                            • Qualifications
                              
                              • Minimum of 5 GCSE's (Grade 5-9)

                              • Experience
                                • Any relevant experience of working in a business or accounts department woudl be beneficial but not essential

                                • Knowledge
                                  • Excel knowledge essential</li>
                                  • Any relevant business or accounting knowledge would be beneficial but not essential
