We are seeking a Subject Matter Expert (SME) Computer Vision Engineer to help build cutting-edge solutions that support critical national defense operations. This role combines hands-on development, advanced system-level thinking, and close collaboration with cross-functional teams including software engineers, systems integrators, and program managers. You’ll be at the forefront of designing and deploying real-time computer vision systems that perform in dynamic and often high-stakes environments. This is a results-driven role within an ML-Ops environment focused on delivering production-ready solutions, processing large-scale data, and ensuring robust model deployment and performance in real-world conditions. In this role, you will lead full lifecycle systems engineering activities, ensuring the translation of mission requirements into scalable, effective, and supportable technical solutions across both software and integrated systems. What You'll Be Owning:  • Design and implement advanced vision models for tasks such as object detection, tracking, scene understanding, and activity recognition. • Lead collaboration with engineering teams to integrate vision capabilities into complex defense systems. • Optimize performance for edge devices and embedded systems in operational environments. • Oversee testing and validation of computer vision systems to ensure mission readiness. • Lead system architecture, technical strategy, and full lifecycle systems engineering efforts. • Perform technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk analyses, and supportability and effectiveness assessments. • Conduct and guide functional analysis, timeline analysis, trade studies, requirements allocation, and interface definition to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications. • Support and influence system development across all lifecycle phases including concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance, and disposal. • Ensure the logical and systematic conversion of customer and product requirements into total systems solutions that account for technical, schedule, and cost constraints. • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and establish best practices across the team. • Maintain security and compliance throughout the development lifecycle. What You Must Have: • Active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph eligibility. • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field. • 14+ years of experience in computer vision, machine learning, or closely related fields. • Proficiency in Python and its ecosystem, including frameworks and libraries such as Flask, SQLAlchemy, Boto3, NumPy, and Pillow, as well as deep learning tools such as PyTorch and TensorFlow; experience with Swift (OpenStack client) is also required. • Proficiency in writing and optimizing SQL queries for data retrieval, analysis, and management. • Deep experience with modern computer vision models such as YOLO, Faster R-CNN, and Vision Transformers. • Strong familiarity with OpenCV and classical computer vision techniques. • Advanced engineering fundamentals, including experience with Git, Docker, and CI/CD practices. • Experience with machine learning utilities such as MLflow, Optuna, and DVC.
