Culinary Delights at MPL: New Canteen Team and Coffee Lounge
Since October 2025, the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light (MPL) has a new canteen team: “Kochhandwerk” now runs the canteen in the basement of the institute, serving lunch from Monday to Friday between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The cafeteria and coffee lounge are open to the public. External guests are warmly welcome: Our cafeteria not only offers culinary delights, but also provides an easy opportunity to interact with our institute staff.
The team places a strong emphasis on fresh, healthy, and balanced ingredients. The daily menu features a variety of warm dishes and fresh salads, ranging from traditional classics to international specialties. The current weekly lunch menu is available here.
On the ground floor, the Coffee Lounge in the foyer complements the canteen offering. Barista Lisa is on hand Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., serving breakfast options including cereals, freshly squeezed orange juice, and pastries, as well as a range of portafilter coffee specialties. Grilled paninis and Belgian waffles round off the menu. Outside these hours, vending machines in the foyer provide coffee, drinks, and snacks around the clock.
