<p><strong>Job Title: Sanitation Technician</strong><p><strong>Job Description</strong><p>The Sanitation Technician maintains a clean, safe, and compliant food production facility by performing detailed industrial cleaning and sanitation tasks throughout the plant. You work largely independently, following daily rotation checklists to clean production equipment, silos, towers, and common areas while adhering to strict Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and safe chemical handling procedures.<p><strong>Responsibilities</strong></p><ul><li>Work independently throughout the plant to complete a daily rotation checklist of sanitation and housekeeping tasks.</li><li>Vacuum inside mill structures and packing buildings to remove dust and debris.</li><li>Dust pipes, remove cobwebs, and maintain overhead areas in production and packaging spaces.</li><li>Clean major and minor spills during production as needed to maintain a safe and sanitary environment.</li><li>Wash flour silos from top to bottom, both inside and outside, including stairways and balconies.</li><li>Clean and sweep sifters, mill towers, and packing towers to prevent product buildup.</li><li>Check magnets in the scale area as part of routine sanitation and safety checks.</li><li>Sweep and clean spilled corn from outside corn silos and mill structures.</li><li>Wash gutters, building structures, and roofs throughout the plant to remove buildup and debris.</li><li>Wash production towers and other elevated structures as assigned.</li><li>Pick up trash, pallets, cans, cardboard, and other debris throughout the plant to maintain good housekeeping.</li><li>Set up sanitation equipment and tools for any cleaning task that may arise.</li><li>Assist in taping and sealing warehouses, packing areas, boxcars, and hopper cars as needed.</li><li>Assist in fogging and releasing fumigants and/or insecticides in warehouses, packing areas, mills, hopper cars, boxcars, and flour silos, following all safety procedures.</li><li>Apply sanitizers and other cleaning agents in production areas according to established procedures.</li><li>Clean and sanitize interior drains by rinsing, scrubbing, and flushing with sanitizer.</li><li>Perform detailed cleaning of interior production areas, including dusting, sweeping, pressure washing, and vacuuming.</li><li>Assist mill operations with cleaning production equipment during shutdowns, sanitizing cycles, and scheduled cleaning procedures.</li><li>Use, handle, store, and transport chemicals and cleaning equipment safely, following PPE requirements and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).</li><li>Practice strong GMPs, including good hygiene, housekeeping, and prevention of cross-contamination.</li><li>Follow simple written instructions, checklists, and sanitation procedures accurately and consistently.</li><li>Maintain excellent attendance and punctuality, recognizing that reliable presence is essential for this role.</li><li>Perform miscellaneous sanitation and general labor duties as assigned in support of plant operations.</li></ul><p><strong>Essential Skills</strong></p><ul><li>Ability to follow simple written instructions accurately and consistently.</li><li>Ability to read, write, and speak English to understand procedures, safety information, and documentation.</li><li>Reliable transportation to and from work to support consistent attendance.</li><li>Ability to work at elevated heights, including silos up to approximately 80 feet.</li><li>Capability to perform industrial cleaning, including sweeping, vacuuming, scrubbing, and washing in a manufacturing environment.</li><li>Ability to clean for long periods of time, including repetitive motions and sustained effort.</li><li>Ability to stand on your feet for the entirety of a 12-hour shift when required.</li><li>Ability to frequently walk, climb ladders, and use stairs throughout the facility.</li><li>Ability to push a cart full of cleaning equipment and products safely.</li><li>Comfort working in a food production or manufacturing environment with strict sanitation standards.</li><li>Commitment to practicing Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), including hygiene, housekeeping, and cross-contamination prevention.</li><li>Willingness to work in hot, cold, wet, humid, windy, and dusty conditions as part of daily duties.</li><li>Team-oriented mindset with a positive attitude and willingness to support others.</li><li>High level of motivation and strong work ethic.</li><li>High school diploma, GED, or equivalent education.</li></ul><p><strong>Additional Skills & Qualifications</strong></p><ul><li>Prior industrial cleaning or housekeeping experience in a manufacturing or food production environment is preferred.</li><li>Previous experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus.</li><li>Experience with janitorial duties, sanitation, and general labor work is beneficial.</li><li>Familiarity with chemical handling, including PPE use, SDS interpretation, and safe storage and transport, is an advantage.</li><li>Comfort working in inclement weather and dusty conditions due to flour and other materials.</li><li>Ability to adapt to changing tasks and priorities in a fast-paced production setting.</li><li>Strong attention to detail to ensure thorough cleaning and sanitation of equipment and facilities.</li></ul><p><strong>Why The environment includes exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by weather, as well as constant or intermittent noise levels that may require hearing protection. You also work in dusty areas due to flour and other product materials. Cell phones are not allowed on the production floor and must be left in a locker or vehicle to maintain safety and product integrity. Shifts are primarily day shift, typically 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with opportunities for overtime and occasional Saturday work of approximately 3–5 hours about once per month. The facility uses industrial cleaning equipment such as vacuums, pressure washers, and sanitation tools, along with various cleaning chemicals that require PPE and adherence to SDS guidelines. The dress code includes a provided hard hat, clean jeans or work pants, a t-shirt without sleeves, and no holes, tears, rips, or offensive graphics. Shirts must not have buttons or features that could damage product. Steel-toe boots and a belt are required, and you must arrive dressed in this attire from your first day.
