These barriers might be physical, geographical or due to their previous history. Whatever the reason, Murphy is committed to breaking down these barriers and supporting anyone who wishes to work in construction and engineering with the opportunity to do so. To achieve this, we operate a portfolio of inclusive recruitment programmes to support underrepresented groups. These include: Autism Placements Only 29% of autistic adults are in employment. Murphy is the first and only company in the construction sector to sign the Employ Autism Charter, committing to create long-term employment for neurodiverse candidates. Through our Murphy Autism Employment Programme, we provide paid internships to autistic candidates. Prison Leavers Scheme Prison leavers in steady jobs six months after leaving prison are 69% less likely to commit further crime. With this statistic in mind, Murphy is proud to have been a founding member of the first National Prison Employment Advisory Board (EAB), a unique initiative offering a journey of employment to prison leavers. Refugee Support Scheme Partnering with the Home Office Murphy has created a unique scheme which helps refugees settle into their new lives and find meaningful work. The scheme involves a support package that allows new intakes time to improve their English if necessary, extends the induction programme and assigns them a buddy that is usually somebody who has come through a not dissimilar experience.
