Main Purpose
Provide clerical and administrative support for the council’s cemeteries and crematorium.
Support the service to run cost-effectively and efficiently.
Provide front-line, sympathetic customer service for bereavement enquiries, advice, and concerns.
Key Responsibilities1) Cemetery & crematorium administration
Assist with booking, recording, and processing statutory burial and cremation documentation.
Support key-holding duties at site offices (where required).
Maintain accurate records and prepare funeral cards for the relevant Cemetery Manager.
Respond to enquiries and complaints from:
members of the public
bereavement industry representatives
Provide practical guidance in a tactful, sensitive, and dignified manner.
Help members of the public with:
choosing/identifying graves
memorialisation options and cemetery/crematorium information.
Provide support and information to funeral directors regarding burial/cremation arrangements.
Accept payments for bereavement services, including:
burials
memorialisation
Maintain accurate information on foundation specifications.
Liaise with:
cemeteries central office
monumental sculptors
to ensure procedural and policy requirements for checking headstones and surrounds are met.
Administration and development
Carry out general administration such as word processing and report writing.
Liaise with cemetery site staff.
Assist senior colleagues with training/mentoring and support newly appointed staff.
