<strong>Job Requirements </strong><br><p> Leads and directs assigned security personnel throughout the shift, providing operational command, staffing oversight, and performance management across designated area(s) or zone(s). Serves as the primary escalation point for security officers regarding operational issues, safety concerns, and incident response. Ensures compliance with all organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. Functions as the shift commander during critical incidents and emergencies. Collaborates closely with the chain of command and interdisciplinary partners to maintain a safe, secure, and supportive environment for patients, visitors, and staff.</p><p> </p><p>Rotating every other weekend - 3pm- 11:30pm</p><br/><p><strong style="color: black;">Primary Responsibilities</strong></p><p> </p><p>The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job responsibilities performed.</p><p> </p><ul><li>Serve as the on-shift supervisor and shift commander, providing direct leadership, guidance, and accountability for all assigned security personnel and ensuring consistent, high-quality service delivery.</li><li>Conduct roll-call briefings to communicate operational priorities, safety information, staffing assignments, and expectations for Security Officers, Security Officers First Class, and Senior Security Officers.</li><li>Monitor staff performance throughout the shift, providing coaching, corrective guidance, and timely documentation of performance concerns, commendations, or policy violations in accordance with procedures.</li><li>Oversee and command responses to high-acuity, complex, or multi-scene incidents, ensuring compliance with departmental policy, legal requirements, and safety standards.</li><li>Review, approve, and ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance of incident reports, safety documentation, and investigative summaries; return incomplete or deficient reports for correction as necessary.</li><li>Conduct or oversee follow-up investigations, including secondary interviews, evidence review, and documentation validation, coordinate with Investigations, Risk Management, HR, Legal, and law enforcement as appropriate.</li><li>Assess and adjust staffing throughout the shift to address callouts, high-acuity units, special events, emergent situations, or operational surges; ensure adequate coverage across assigned areas.</li><li>Serve as the primary communication and coordination point between field personnel, Dispatch, hospital leadership, clinical teams, and external agencies including law enforcement and fire/EMS.</li><li>Ensure compliance with departmental SOPs, post orders, safety standards, and regulatory requirements through active supervision, quality checks, and corrective follow-up.</li><li>Identify safety hazards, operational deficiencies, security vulnerabilities, and equipment issues; implement immediate mitigation strategies and escalate issues to leadership as required.</li><li>Support training, onboarding, and professional development efforts by reinforcing policy expectations, coordinating remedial training, and mentoring assigned personnel.</li><li>Ensure readiness and proper functioning of security equipment including radios, alarms, access control systems, body-worn cameras, and weapons detection technology; initiate corrective actions when deficiencies are identified.</li><li>Represent the Security Department with professionalism, modeling strong customer service, effective communication, and appropriate conflict-resolution skills in all interactions.</li><li>Prepare and submit supervisory documentation including shift summaries, incident escalations, performance notes, and staffing concerns for Lieutenant or Manager review.</li><li>Act as the incident commander during emergencies, implementing emergency plans, coordinating evacuations, and maintaining operational control until relieved by higher command.</li><li>Perform all other duties as assigned.</li></ul><br><br><strong>Work Experience </strong><br><p><strong style="color: black;">Education & Experience - Required</strong></p><p> </p><ul><li>High school diploma or equivalent (GED)</li><li>Three (3) years security experience</li><li>Completion of an approved de-escalation course on crisis intervention required within 90 days from starting in position. </li><li>Valid driver’s license is required for all individuals hired into this role on or after April 1, 2026.</li></ul><p> </p><p><strong style="color: black;">Education & Experience - Preferred</strong></p><p> </p><ul><li>Lead or supervisory experience</li><li>Heart Saver, CPR, Stop the Bleed and/or Narcan training</li><li>Hospital or healthcare experience </li><li>Certification in healthcare security (i.e., Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator (CHPA), Certified Healthcare Security Officer (CHSO)) or other related security certifications</li></ul><p> </p><p><strong style="color: black;">Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities</strong></p><p> </p><ul><li>Advanced knowledge of hospital security operations, emergency response procedures, incident command principles, and safety protocols within a healthcare environment.</li><li>Demonstrated leadership and supervisory ability to direct, coach, mentor, evaluate, and hold staff accountable in a fast-paced, high-acuity setting.</li><li>Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including clear radio discipline, report writing, and professional interaction with patients, visitors, staff, and external partners.</li><li>Strong decision-making ability to assess risk, make timely judgments under pressure, and maintain composure during complex, emotionally charged, or high-risk events.</li><li>Strong problem-solving, situational awareness, and analytical skills to identify safety risks, operational deficiencies, and appropriate corrective actions.</li><li>Proficiency in incident investigation oversight, report review, documentation quality control, and ensuring compliance with policy, legal, and regulatory standards.</li><li>Ability to effectively coordinate and collaborate with clinical teams, hospital leadership, HR, Risk Management, Legal, law enforcement, fire/EMS, and other interdisciplinary partners.</li><li>Working proficiency with security technology systems including radios, access control, alarms, video surveillance, body-worn cameras, and weapons detection equipment.</li><li>Ability to enforce policies, Maryland law, and local ordinances consistently, lawfully, and professionally.</li><li>Ability to identify performance issues, document concerns, deliver corrective guidance, and communicate findings and recommendations to leadership.</li></ul><p>Strong commitment to modeling values and fostering a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for patients, visitors, and staff.</p><br/><br/><p> <strong>Compensation</strong></p><ul><li>Pay Range: $30.26-$42.37</li><li><a href="https://c.smartrecruiters.com/sr-company-attachments-prod-aws-dc11/630e3fd79a50134398611659/40740939-f8ca-4af0-99f8-9300a75bd3fd?r=s3-us-east-2" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" style="color: inherit;">Review the 2024-2025 UMMS Benefits Guide</a><u>.</u></li></ul><br><br>
