Overview
The position of Athletic Trainer will work under the direction of the Assistant AD-Sports Medicine and Performance, and the Head Athletic Trainer to provide recognition, prevention, and rehabilitation of injuries with primary responsibility to oversee the care of Hillsdale Academy’s high school athletics programs. Hillsdale Academy is a K-12 liberal arts school located on the campus of Hillsdale College. Hillsdale Academy currently has girls and boys basketball, track, cross country, golf, boys soccer, and girls volleyball. Other duties will be assigned as reasonable to provide support to aspects of Hillsdale College athletics teams, but that coverage will be secondary to coverage for Hillsdale Academy Athletics and other assignments as determined by the Asst AD of Sports Medicine and Performance within Hillsdale College Athletics. The position of Athletic Trainer is a 12-month position.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree
Minimum of two years of experience in the athletic training field
NATA Certification, and must be licensed or eligible for licensing in the state of Michigan
Current CPR and AED certification required within 1 month of appointment
Willingness to travel and perform evening and weekend work are also required, sometimes on short notice.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s level degree in athletic training or related field. Strong organizational skills and willingness to work with supply inventory. Additional certifications, or interest in attaining additional certifications in athletic performance or therapeutic modalities is preferred.
Physical Requirements
Average physical strength is required. 2. Must be able to ambulate, step, climb, stoop, bend twist and carry heavy objects over uneven terrain. 3. Must be able to demonstrate movements in which athletes are being trained. 4. Must be able to hear, see, talk, read and communicate with Hillsdale College colleagues, athletes, prospective athletes, donors and other constituents orally and in writing. 5. Must be able to safely lift up to 50 pounds of equipment regularly. 6. Frequently works in outdoor weather conditions.
Other Skills
Knowledge of NCAA rules & regulations. 2. Knowledge of technique, strategy, and certifications. 3. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and to express effectively ideas orally and in writing.

The Office of Athletics interacts with the entire Hillsdale College audience. A neat appearance and a pleasant relationship that is supportive of the College mission is essential. This relationship needs to be supportive and professional, while maintaining confidentiality as needed.

Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive medical services to Hillsdale Academy athletic teams
Responsible for practice coverage, game coverage, and athletic training room services
Will support travel to some away contests with College sports teams.
Specific major responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Assist student-athletes with referrals for appropriate medical care.
Assist the Head Athletic Trainer in confirming that all student-athletes have acceptable medical insurance as outlined by the school’s medical insurance policies.
Assist with the development and implementation of emergency action plans.
Assist with the organization and administration of physical examinations.
Maintain up to date medical records for all student-athletes with the use of SportsWare.
Maintain an organized system of tracking supply inventory to assist the Head Athletic Trainer with purchasing of supplies as needed.
Other duties as assigned by Assistant AD-Sports Medicine and Performance and/or Director of Athletics
