Works Order Management Engineer Sub Division: Information Technology Location: Horsham or Watford Hours: Full Time - 37.5 hours - Monday to Friday Creating and maintaining great places to live and work delivered by excellent people who care… We’re looking for a Works Order Management Engineer to join our expanding team, supporting one of the most critical operational systems used across our highways and infrastructure contracts. This is a unique opportunity to work with industry-specific technology, supporting the platforms that enable us to receive, process and deliver works orders across multiple highways authorities and infrastructure clients. You’ll be joining at an exciting time, with major business growth, new functionality being introduced, and a migration toward cloud-hosted services—all of which create new opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement The Works Order Management Engineer supports and maintains our Causeway Project Accounting (CPA) system—a high-volume, business-critical application that sits at the centre of our operational workflows. CPA receives works orders electronically from our clients, converts these into jobs, and connects directly with our mobile workforce in the field. You’ll be working alongside two existing specialists, helping us manage both business-as-usual support and the growing pipeline of development and innovation work. With the expansion of services and integration of FMC, this is the ideal time for someone who wants to learn, develop and play a key role in shaping how our systems evolve. This role offers a blend of technical problem-solving, system administration, data handling and direct engagement with internal stakeholders across highways, construction and plant management operations. • Supporting the CPA platform day-to-day, ensuring works orders flow correctly between clients, internal systems and mobile applications. • Investigating and resolving application issues, analysing data flows and maintaining system stability in a high-volume transactional environment. • Working with legacy and modern technologies including APIs, XSL/XSLT, SOAP, SQL and elements of ISAM architecture. • Contributing to system improvements, new enhancements and upcoming cloud-hosting transitions. • Gaining exposure to associated applications, including mobile tools and client asset management platforms. • Collaborating with colleagues across multiple offices and occasionally visiting sites to better understand operational needs (typically once every couple of months). Essential Qualifications/Skills • At least 5 years’ experience in application support or application development. • Working knowledge of APIs, XSL/XSLT, SOAP and SQL (ISAM desirable) • Experience working within highways, construction, civil engineering or infrastructure environments, or familiarity with industry workflows and terminology. • Strong analytical skills and the ability to understand complex system integrations. • A collaborative approach and enthusiasm to support colleagues and end users. A driving licence is not essential—public transport is fine where required.
