They are now seeking a
Civil Engineer to join their expanding team in Wiveliscombe. This role plays a key part in developing solutions for sewage, surface water, and trade effluent management across all stages of development, from feasibility through to commissioning.
This a full time, permanent position with a salary of up to £45,000 depending on experience. The working hours are Monday -Friday and there is hybrid working available.
The Role
You will be responsible for delivering high‑quality civil engineering solutions across the full project lifecycle. Key responsibilities include:
- Developing drainage strategies, feasibility studies, and detailed drainage designs for construction
- Preparing construction drawings, scale drawings, schematic reports, technical notes, and designer risk assessments
- Acting as both a client lead and technical lead, while providing coaching and mentoring to junior staff
- Defining project briefs following client information review and site walkovers
- Working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary design team — including architects, structural and geotechnical engineers — while also working independently where required
- Preparing flood risk assessments and supporting construction teams during construction and commissioning, including setting‑out drawings, construction details, and clash analysis
- Managing client relationships and ensuring effective liaison across the wider design team
- Coordinating and delivering regulatory approvals including environmental permits, planning permissions, and other statutory requirements
- Preparing feasibility, outline, and detailed designs for foul drainage, including pumped and gravity systems
- Using MicroDrainage for network design, sizing, and specification of both water quantity and water quality features
Skills & Qualifications
WCI welcome applications from candidates with a range of academic backgrounds. While degree qualifications are traditionally associated with the Engineer route and HNC with the Technician route, they recognise that capability varies by individual — and many HNC‑qualified professionals make excellent Engineers
Essential:
- Previous experience in a similar civil engineering role
- Strong understanding of drainage design and water/wastewater systems
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach
- High attention to detail with strong accuracy in technical work
- Ability to organise and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- A proactive, solutions‑focused mindset
Qualifications considered:
- Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline
- HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or equivalent non‑degree qualification
