About the Role

Senior Hardware Engineer If you enjoy solving complex engineering problems in safety-critical environments and want to see your designs move from concept through to real-world deployment, this could be YOUR next step. This well-established, technology-driven organisation in the Cambridge area is investing heavily in its next generation of products and is looking to bring in an experienced Senior Hardware Engineer to strengthen a highly capable Baseband Hardware team. You will be joining a collaborative, technically ambitious environment where engineers are trusted with ownership, encouraged to influence design decisions, and supported to develop both technically and professionally. Why this role? Work on technically demanding, safety-critical electronic platformsTake real ownership of features and subsystems within major product developmentsBe part of a stable, growing engineering group with long-term product roadmapsInfluence design decisions from early architecture through to verificationCollaborate with multidisciplinary teams across hardware, systems and verification What you will be doing: Owning delivery of defined product features or significant sections of larger platformsDesigning intrinsic safety circuitry for ATEX-certified products, including thermal management and current-limiting strategiesDeveloping microprocessor-based systems with integrated sensorsCreating efficient, low-power power-supply architectures for demanding operating environmentsDesigning audio amplifier solutions up to 10WLeading design verification, EMC validation and system-level testingProducing high-quality technical documentation to support release and certificationWorking closely with cross-functional engineering teams What we need from you: A degree in an engineering discipline (or equivalent industry experience)Proven experience developing hardware for ATEX-certified or intrinsically safe environmentsStrong understanding of intrinsic-safety principles and regulatory compliance pathwaysExperience with microprocessor systems, low-power architectures and power-saving strategiesConfidence across serial interfaces such as I²S, I²C, UART and USB (USB 3.0 particularly welcome)The ability to communicate complex designs clearly through written technical documentationA proactive, collaborative mindset and comfort working in evolving development programmes An added bonus……. EMC and ESD design experience at component and system levelExposure to complex mixed-signal architecturesAudio system design experienceFamiliarity with embedded Linux environments, board bring-up or driver integration What can you expect in return: Salary in the range of £65,000 - £85,000, dependent on experiencePrivate health and dental careSubsidised onsite restaurantEnhanced pension contributionFlexible working hoursEmployee assistance programmeFree onsite parkingRegular social events Interested?If this sounds like the kind of role where you could make a real impact, I’d welcome a confidential conversation.
